Health o meter 500KL Battery Replacement

Ensure Reliable Operation

Proper maintenance of your Health o meter 500KL Digital Physician Scale includes periodically replacing the batteries to ensure consistent and reliable operation. This guide will walk you through the simple steps for replacing the batteries in your scale.

The Health-o-Meter 500KL Scale is powered by six (6) AA batteries, which should power the scale for thousands of weighings under normal use.

What You’ll Need

  • Six (6) new AA batteries
  • Phillips screwdriver
    (to open the battery compartment)

How to Replace / Insert Batteries

Remove Protective Film

Remove the protective plastic film covering the display (the film says “FACTORYCALIBRATED”)

Unplug AC Adapter

Unplug the optional AC adapter, if connected to a power source.

Remove the Screw from the Battery Compartment Cover

With a Phillips head screwdriver remove the screw from the battery compartment cover located on the back of the display. Remove the battery cover by pressing downward on the locking tab.

Install New Batteries

Replace or install 6 new AA batteries. Health o Meter recommends alkaline or lithium battery. Do not use zinc-carbon batteries

Close Battery Compartment

Re-attach the battery cover to the display assembly.

Turn Scale On

Ensure all objects are removed from the scale’s platform, and then press the ON/OFF button to turn the scale on. The display will show “Start”, then “0.0” LB or “0.0” KG. Press the LB/KG button to select the desired weight mode (LB or KG)

Note: The battery icon on the display does not indicate battery life. The battery icon is displayed when the scale is using batteries as the power source.

Note: This scale will always default to the settings and units last used (LB or KG).

Note: If the set up procedure fails, refer to the troubleshooting instructions. If the problem is not corrected, contact Health o meter Professional Scales Customer Service at 1-800-815-6615.

Note: If “Lo” appears on the display, it indicates that the battery power is low. It does NOT indicate a problem with the weight measurement

Always use high-quality AA batteries for longer-lasting performance.


Avoid mixing old and new batteries to ensure consistent power delivery.

Warning: If the scale will not be used for some time, remove the batteries to avoid a safety hazard.

Disposal of batteries must be performed in accordance with the prevailing national, regional or local regulations which apply
